Planting of the 2021/22 cotton harvest reaches 0.20% of the estimated area
Cotton planting in the 2021/22 harvest reached the 0.20% mark of the estimated area, according to information collected up to November 18, with an increase of 0.07% in the week, according to Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Algodão [Brazilian Cotton Producers Association] (Abrapa). The organization also informed that the area sown in São Paulo is currently 33% and in Paraná, 43%. The forecast is that the 2021/22 harvest will have an increase of 12.6% compared to the previous harvest, reaching 1.53 million hectares of cultivated cotton.
According to Abrapa, 88% of the 2020/21 harvest was processed. The states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Piauí, São Paulo and Paraná are the only ones that managed to complete the processing. Bahia and Tocantins processed 93% of the volume, while Goiás processed 99.5%, Maranhão, 71%, Minas Gerais, 98%, and Mato Grosso, 86%. The Association also emphasizes that, in terms of exports, the daily average of shipments fell by 23% compared to the same period of the previous year and that in November, 102,600 tons of Brazilian cotton were exported.
