Noting VMware’s broad portfolio of networking solutions, which covers the entire network stack and includes native network features for observability, micro-segmentation, and beyond, GigaOm says that VMware is in a leading position to help enterprises with complex networking requirements “modernize and optimize their infrastructure.”
The report evaluates 11 vendors that provide tools or platforms to help build and operate cloud networks. They include major enterprises like VMware, as well as several smaller companies.
GigaOm assessed the vendors on a variety of criteria, including:
- Network traffic security and micro-segmentation.
- Troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Optimization and autoscaling.
- APIs and IaC integration.
- Application-aware infrastructure.
- Solution management.
VMware received a triple-plus score – the highest evaluation possible – for most of the categories given above.
GigaOm also evaluated VMware highly based on the cloud networking architectures and use cases that VMware solutions support.
The report recognizes VMware as a leading vendor for every major type of cloud networking architecture – ranging from traditional, single-cloud enterprise environments, to multi-cloud architectures, and even to edge clouds and container-based cloud infrastructure. The report placed particular emphasis on VMware’s value for hybrid cloud networking requirements.
VMware also stands out for enabling cloud networking for businesses that focus on DevOps and end-to-end networking use cases, according to GigaOm.
In its assessment of VMware, GigaOm emphasized the breadth of the company’s cloud networking portfolio. By combining products like VMware NSX, NSX Advanced Load Balancer, Tanzu Service Mesh, Tanzu Observability, and vRealize Automation, the report says, organizations can address cloud network deployment, management, and security needs at every layer of the networking stack and across a wide variety of use cases and configurations.
“VMware’s cloud networking offering provides an end-to-end and fully featured stack from Layer 2 to Layer 7, supported by declarative APIs, integrations with IaC tools, and a low-code path for automation.”
GigaOm also notes that VMware’s capabilities extend far beyond cloud networking, a fact that it says is especially valuable for businesses with complex infrastructures. VMware’s broad suite of solutions means that organizations can turn to a single vendor to modernize and optimize many facets of their IT estate, including but not limited to cloud networking.
