Nextdoor Kind Foundation commits £50,000 to local non-profit projects to further fuel community connection

Nextdoor, the essential neighbourhood network, today announced a major milestone with more than 10 million neighbours now on the platform across the UK. Since launching in the UK, Nextdoor has become a vital resource for British neighbours, with more than one in four adults nationwide using the platform to access reliable recommendations, trusted local information, and the latest news from their communities.

Across the UK, neighbours flock to Nextdoor as an essential resource for getting things done in their communities and stay for the community connection it fosters.

Neighbours come to Nextdoor for utility and stay for community:

  • Nextdoor has proved to be a vital lifeline for neighbours, particularly during the cost of living crisis, the most pressing issue for Brits today (source: ONS). More than seven million items – from furniture to children’s clothing – have been traded on the UK platform’s ‘For Sale and Free’ section, with nearly 30% of these items being given away for free.
  • Over 80,000 local groups have been created in the UK, bringing like-minded neighbours together around shared interests and fostering a strong sense of belonging within communities. From swapping DIY tips and supporting local businesses, to job searching, making new friends, or joining singles groups—Nextdoor offers something for everyone.
  • More than half a million UK businesses have set up a Nextdoor business page providing them with a free and easy online presence to engage with their local community, attract new customers, and drive growth.
  • Nextdoor’s sponsored media offering is attracting major enterprise logos from some of the UK’s most iconic household brands including Costa Coffee and the Yorkshire Building Society. Media agencies and brands are spending with Nextdoor to tap into its highly engaged, purpose-driven audience.
  • Nextdoor is the go-to platform for public authorities to engage with residents, with nearly half of the UK’s local councils and one third of all fire services and police forces on the platform. With national partners such as the UK Government, including the Prime Minister’s Office, and NHS England, every neighbour on Nextdoor has direct access to trusted information from an official public authority.

For the first time in the UK, the Nextdoor Kind Foundation has committed to donating £50,000 to support charitable work in UK communities.  Founded in 2021, the Nextdoor Kind Foundation has provided microgrant funding to individuals, small businesses and local projects that impact communities in need.

Nirav Tolia, CEO and Co-Founder of Nextdoor said, “The UK is a key market for Nextdoor, and it’s inspiring to see over 10 million neighbours actively contributing to their communities. Nextdoor goes beyond simply connecting neighbours—it has become the go-to app for getting things done and finding support when it’s needed most. It’s where local businesses thrive, and public authorities engage to keep communities safe. At its heart, Nextdoor fosters real-world connections, and we’re excited to see it enter its next phase of growth across the UK.”

Jan Cowley from Nuneaton joined Nextdoor when it first launched in the UK and has been using the platform ever since to run a social group she created to combat loneliness. Jan said, “Nextdoor has changed my life, filling it with happiness and friendship. Having experienced loneliness myself, I decided to start a social club for those feeling isolated in our community. Instead of using posters, I turned to Nextdoor for help. Over the past seven years, our group has blossomed into a vibrant, joyful circle of 30 neighbours, giving us all a renewed sense of purpose and connection. I feel truly blessed to have such wonderful people in my life and deeply cherish our incredible experiences and friendships.”

With the UK now the essential neighbourhood network’s largest international market, Nextdoor is primed for its next growth phase in the UK and worldwide. Nextdoor welcomed back Nirav Tolia as CEO earlier this year along with his fellow Co-Founder, Sarah Leary. The Board has also seen new additions including leading tech veterans Marissa Mayer, Elisa Steele, Niraj Shah, and Robert Hohman.
