Out of town this fall? Here’s how to vote in the CBJ Municipal Election

It’s a busy election season this year—so don’t forget that the October 1, 2024 CBJ Municipal Election is just around the corner. Between September 12 and October 1, Juneau voters will make selections for Mayor, Assembly, and Board of Education, as well as vote on ballot propositions and recall petitions. CBJ regular municipal elections are conducted as by-mail elections, meaning that all registered Juneau voters automatically receive a ballot in the mail. Voters can return their ballots by postal mail or through a ballot drop box, or choose instead to vote in person at a Vote Center. Ballots will be mailed out September 12, and you can vote and return your ballot as soon as you receive it.

But what if you’re not going to be in Juneau? Don’t worry—even if you’ll be out of town during the election period, you can still cast your vote. Choose one of the following options:

Receive your ballot at another address. Fill out a temporary address application to receive your ballot at a different mailing location.

  • Return the form by Tuesday, August 27, for your temporary address to be included in the initial ballot mail-out. Applications after this date will be processed as they are received. The final deadline to submit a temporary address application is September 24.
  • Please keep in mind that ballots must be postmarked no later than October 1 and received by October 14 to be eligible for counting. If you have any doubts about this timing, consider an e-ballot.

Vote by e-ballot/fax. Fill out the e-ballot/fax application to receive a ballot by email or fax

  • The final deadline to submit an e-ballot application is 5 p.m. Alaska Time, September 30.
  • E-ballots will be sent out beginning approximately September 18.
  • Please be aware that if you receive your ballot by email you must be able to print it out. The ballot and voter certificate must be marked and signed by the voter on paper—we cannot accept ballots that have been digitally altered in any way.
  • After you have marked and signed your printed ballot packet, you can return it by email (scan or photograph), fax, or postal mail.
  • Ballots returned by email/fax must arrive by 8 p.m. Alaska Time on October 1. Ballots returned by postal mail must be postmarked by October 1 and received by October 14.
