Alaska Department of Transportation FY2025 Human Services Transportation Grant

The purpose of the Human Services Transportation grant is to ensure that elderly persons and persons with disabilities gain access and mobility similar to the general population from the use of transit facilities and services. Local communities set priorities and approve projects to proceed with a state grant application.

As part of the local process, CBJ holds a competitive application round to ensure projects fit into the 2020 Juneau Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan and coordinate with existing public transportation services and human services transportation options in the community.

A timeline with key dates and the FY25 Funding Nomination Forms can be found at  juneau.org/community-development/jctc/jctc-about-us.

In the FY2024 competition Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL, Inc.) was awarded $86,250 for a replacement Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Taxi for the Accessible Taxi Program.

Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development (DCEED) Community Development Block Grant Program

Each year the City and Borough of Juneau is eligible to sponsor a local project for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program, facilitated through the State of Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. CDBG competitive grants are single-purpose project grants with a maximum of $850,000 per community.

The goals of the Alaska Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) are to provide financial resources to Alaskan communities for public facilities and planning activities which address issues detrimental to the health and safety of local residents and to reduce the costs of essential community services. The program may also fund Special Economic Development activities which result in the creation of jobs for low and moderate income persons.

A timeline with key dates, the local competition application, and state application materials can be found at juneau.org/community-development/grants-cdbg.

In 2021, AWARE was awarded $333,402 in CBDG funds for retaining wall construction.
