Malta International Airport plc honoured with the Malta Stock Exchange Company of the Year Award

Malta International Airport plc received the Malta Stock Exchange (MSE) ‘Company of the Year Award 2020’ for corporate governance and its financial performance in 2019.

During the Malta Stock Exchange Awards, which returned on Friday after a hiatus, five awards related to business and finance were given out. The award ceremony was presided over by Minister for Finance and Employment Hon. Clyde Caruana, MSE Chief Executive Officer Mr Simon Zammit and MSE Chairman Mr Joseph Portelli.

Accepting the award on behalf of the company, Malta International Airport Chief Executive Officer Mr Alan Borg thanked the Malta Stock Exchange for organising the event as well as rewarding the company’s excellent performance in 2019 and its commitment to operating the business in a transparent and accountable manner which benefits all stakeholders.

“Receiving recognition for a record financial year at a time when we are trying to recover from the blows dealt by the pandemic may appear to be jarring. However, today’s award is a celebration of years of growth, which ultimately helped us face the unprecedented challenges brought by COVID-19, and a reminder of our responsibility, as a listed company, an employer, and a key player in the tourism industry, to keep working towards a sustainable recovery,” said Mr Alan Borg.

Mr Borg dedicated the award to the memory of airport employee Patrick Demanuele, who passed on just weeks before his thirtieth anniversary within the Security Services Department at Malta International Airport, describing him as the embodiment of the company’s values of service excellence, teamwork and integrity.

He then went on to thank all members of the Malta International Airport team for their steadfast commitment to achieving both the company’s financial and non-financial targets, particularly those related to service excellence and sustainability, even amid the disheartening circumstances that have characterised the past two years.
