Play virtual slots at the oldest theater in West London

Walk into Scene3D’s immersive digital twin of a historic casino

In the heart of London’s West End, Grosvenor Casinos has transformed a monument of entertainment, West London’s oldest theater, into The Rialto casino. Maintaining some of the original features of the theater, The Rialto offers customers a connection with history in this unique, grand building — all while they enjoy twenty-first-century technology and games.

As part of the new updates, Rialto customers who are unable to travel or cannot access the impressive space are no longer limited by their location. Grosvenor Casinos contacted Scene3D to open the space virtually to everyone with Matterport’s 3D digital twin technology. Visitors can move through the gilded theater, examine the awe-inspiring domed ceiling, take the stairs into the gorgeously decorated backstage bar, and take a peek at the drink menu, all within the digital twin.

Using the interactive features available with Matterport technology, Scene3D also offers the casino’s virtual visitors access to online games with a single click. The only thing better than enjoying the magnificence and intrigue of such a casino would be to check it out yourself.

Wanting to further hear about Scene3D’s experience utilizing Matterport 3D tools, we asked Alexander Eason, the Commercial Director of Scene3D Ltd, to tell us more.

What inspired the 3D capture of this space?

The Rialto has a historic background as the first theater in London’s famous West End. After falling into disrepair after many years of neglect, the grade II listed building was bought by Grosvenor Casinos and renovated into a new gaming site.

Grosvenor Casinos made a great effort to be sympathetic to the building’s original features while bringing the space up to date. They commissioned Scene3D to create a Matterport tour of the space to help encourage visitors to join and visit in person.

What are the “must-sees” you want visitors to explore and why?

There is a beautiful ceiling in the main area that’s carried over from the building's previous life as a theater. You can get a great look at this feature from the mezzanine balcony. Beyond showcasing the space itself, we have used Mattertags to link to a portal where potential members can join or play online games around the tour. If you explore the space, be sure to check out the “backstage bar” for theater memorabilia.

We’d love visitors to feel how grand and historic this space is compared to the average casino. We also want them to feel excited to come and visit in person.

Do you have any plans to capture more 3D experiences?

We have currently completed Matterport tours for a selection of the Grosvenor Casinos sites around the UK and are hoping to roll them out across the rest of their portfolio.
